Practical domain guide
A free coming soon page for your domain
A coming-soon page should do more than announce that work is unfinished. Its job is to explain one credible promise and give interested people a low-friction next step.
The minimum useful page
Use a specific headline, one sentence of context, three short reasons to care and an email field. If a launch month is genuinely useful, include it; otherwise leave it out. A vague “something amazing is coming” page cannot tell visitors whether it is relevant to them.
Write the copy in ten minutes
- Finish the sentence: “This helps [person] do [job] without [current pain].”
- Turn the clearest part into the headline.
- Use the subheadline to name the audience and situation.
- Choose three benefits that are outcomes, not implementation details.
Keep every claim true today. A pre-launch page can describe an intention, but should not imply customers, availability or evidence that does not exist.
Connect your own domain
You do not need to transfer the domain. A hosted-page service gives you a target; you add a DNS record at the registrar or DNS provider. Providers that support CNAME flattening or ALIAS records can point the root name to a hostname. Otherwise, forward the root to www at your registrar. Add www separately as a CNAME. Changes often appear quickly but can take longer because resolvers cache old answers.
Measure without surveilling
A daily visit count and the number of consenting signups are enough for an early test. You do not need visitor-level tracking, fingerprinting or a complex analytics dashboard. State what email will be used for and make unsubscribing possible when you begin sending updates.
Domain Hangover’s free plan connects one domain and includes the small service badge. Create a coming-soon page.
